Crown Alum to Study at University of Cambridge in England

Music Grad, Curtis Kettler, Class of 2007, will study under internationally recognized conductor, Stephen Layton at the University of Cambridge.

After graduating from Crown College with a degree in music, Curtis Kettler, took on his current position as a vocal instructor and director of the Crown Women’s Choir at Crown. After applying to several schools he thought he’d apply to Cambridge thinking, “let’s just see what happens”. To his surprise his application was accepted by the faculty of music at the University of Cambridge in England for the Masters of Music in Choral Conducting program. He will begin studies in October 2012 and will be studying under internationally recognized conductor, Stephen Layton, the Director of Music at Trinity College, Cambridge, and the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the City of London Sinfonia.

Curtis will also be involved with a number of the chapel choirs at the University of Cambridge. Some colleges Mr. Kettler might get to work with are King’s College, Trinity College and/or Claire College.

Since graduating from Crown, Curtis has sung with the Minnesota Opera, directed the pit orchestra and chorus in three Crown musicals and has been a worship minister at two churches. He is presently a member of VocalEssence, renowned for its innovative exploration of music for voices and instruments under the direction of Artistic Director and Founder, Philip Brunelle.

Congratulations Curtis!

Curtis’ wife, Elizabeth, is also a Crown grad and is presently a CPA at Ernst and Young.

The Crown Community is proud of you both!
